to barely live, by ilhem issaoui

to fall in love is the sort of sumptuous jejunity I could never afford
and yet people find meaning in that
put that under erasure
now start anew
I can barely live
the sort of living
in which you know you are deserving
but undeserved, here you are
wretchedness at its finest apogee
this is how we die in my land!
doubts and questions
but mostly hopes
inside our brains
like leeches
leaving nothing
